- Accounting - Creating accounting systems and reporting financial status
- Auditing - Reviewing accounting statements (and other material) to ensure accuracy
- Budgeting - Allocating funds for operations and projects
- Forensic - Investigating potential fraud, associated analysis and legal support
- Sick-business - Analysis for businesses that may be in trouble to affect a turn-around
- Sarbanes-Oxley (aka "SOx"). Federal regulations forcing business to accurately report financial status -- created as a result of the failure of several large businesses.
Standards
There are many standards for accounting and financial management. Many of the popular ones include: National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA); Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which regulates publicly-traded companies; The Association of Certified Public Accountants, which offers the CPA certification (among others).
